Men - It’s time to talk

How long will you stay silent, pretending the weight isn’t crushing you?
Why carry the load alone when God has called you to share it? Why suffer in silence when healing is closer than you think?

For many, Christmas is a season of celebration, joy, and family gatherings. Yet, for others, it can be one of the loneliest and most challenging times of the year. The memories of lost loved ones, the weight of unmet expectations, or the simple ache of feeling unseen can make this season feel unbearable.

But here’s the good news: you don’t have to carry it all alone.

Breaking the Stigma: Men, It’s Time to Speak Up

In the words of UFC fighter Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett:
“There’s a stigma in this world that men can’t talk. If you’re a man and you’ve got weight on your shoulders… please speak to someone. I’d rather my mate cry on my shoulder than go to his funeral next week.”

This isn’t just a soundbite. It’s a call to action. It’s a reminder that silence can be deadly, and vulnerability is not weakness—it’s strength.

Even in the pages of Scripture, we see the power of shared burdens:

  • Moses grew too weary to hold up his arms during battle, but Aaron and Hur stood beside him, physically lifting his hands when he couldn’t (Exodus 17:12).

  • Elijah felt so low that he prayed for God to take his life. In response, God met him with His presence, sending an angel to provide food and rest (1 Kings 19:4-5).

  • Even Jesus, in His darkest moment, didn’t isolate Himself. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He brought His closest friends and admitted, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me” (Matthew 26:38).

If the Son of God could ask for help, how much more should we?

The Hope of Christmas: You’re Not Alone

Christmas is a powerful reminder that God didn’t leave us alone in our pain. He sent His Son, Jesus, to be Emmanuel—“God with us” (Matthew 1:23). He came not to ignore our burdens but to carry them, offering us hope, peace, and restoration.

No matter how heavy your heart feels right now, remember:

  • God is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

  • You can cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).

But God’s design for healing doesn’t stop with Him. He created us to lean on each other. The Bible teaches:

  • “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).

  • “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed” (James 5:16).

  • “Two are better than one… If either of them falls down, one can help the other up” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10).

You were never meant to carry this alone.

Take the First Step Toward Freedom

Right now, wherever you are, take one step.

  • Call a friend and share what’s on your heart.

  • Pray and surrender the burden you’ve been holding onto.

  • Reach out to someone who might be struggling—don’t wait for them to come to you.

Even if it feels impossible, trust that God will meet you in your honesty. Vulnerability is where His power begins to work. And when you open up, you make room for healing, restoration, and the hope that only He can provide.

Let this Christmas be the season where you refuse to let silence win. Be the one who reaches out. Be the friend who listens. And most of all, be the man who trusts God with everything, knowing that His grace is sufficient for you.

Don’t let this season break you. Speak up. Trust God. The time to act is now.

Your brother,
Filipe Drumond
